Kevin Pillar Announces Retirement After 13 MLB Seasons
Gardener Kevin Pillar, who developed most of his 13-year career in Major League Baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays, has announced his retirement. Pillar confirmed his decision during an interview on the Foul Territory podcast, approximately one month after being released by the Texas Rangers. After recovering from thumb surgery during the offseason, Pillar played 20 games with the Rangers, his tenth team in the majors, achieving nine hits in 43 at-bats. Pillar, 36, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 32nd round of the 2011 draft and made his debut in 2013. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants at the beginning of the 2019 season, which was his best year in the Major Leagues. He batted .264 with 21 home runs, 87 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases for the Giants that year, before signing with the Boston Red Sox in 2020.“You will always be our Superman,” the Blue Jays expressed in a congratulatory post on social media.
