Aaron Judge Returns to Action with the Yankees

Aaron Judge’s return to the New York Yankees lineup is scheduled for Tuesday, according to manager Aaron Boone after the team’s 8-5 loss to the Texas Rangers in 10 innings on Monday night. Judge is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, after being sidelined with a strain in his right elbow flexor. He hasn’t played since July 25. According to Boone, the Yankees will also place Austin Slater on the injured list. Judge hit against the Yankees’ minor league pitchers at the team’s complex in Tampa, Florida, for the second consecutive day on Monday before flying to Texas, where he was seen in the dugout during the start of a three-game series. Boone said before the game that Judge will be the designated hitter when he returns in Texas. He also mentioned that Judge could play catch in Texas, which will help determine when he could return to the outfield.

I hope Judgie is doing well and plays catch on Tuesday or the next day, and we’ll start to get a sense of the schedule for that, and then we’ll see what happens when we get back home.

Judge will return to a Yankees team that has lost four straight games, including a three-game sweep in Miami. They remain in third place in the American League East, behind Toronto and Boston, with 49 games remaining in the regular season. Judge’s .342 batting average still led the majors before Monday’s games. He was fourth with 37 home runs and fifth with 85 RBIs. Giancarlo Stanton has been the Yankees’ starting designated hitter in their 32 games this season. He missed the first 70 games of the season due to inflammation in the tendons of both elbows, and Boone said he would not play in the outfield in Texas if Judge is the designated hitter during the series. Boone stated that having Judge back will be good for the team. Yes, it’s Aaron Judge. We know what he means for our lineup and for the guys in the clubhouse. So we’re certainly excited for him to return and, hopefully, shortly thereafter, be back on the field as well.
