José Ramírez, out of the lineup due to injury

Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez did not play in Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals due to a contusion on his right forearm. Ramírez was hit by a pitch from Toronto’s Kevin Gausman during the fourth inning of Thursday’s game. This situation arose after Blue Jays batter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was hit by a fastball from Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee in the third inning, forcing him to leave the game as well due to a contusion on his forearm. This is only the third time that Ramírez is absent from the lineup and the first since May 3 in Toronto.

Manager Stephen Vogt indicated that Ramírez’s status is day-to-day, but he hopes he can return to the lineup on Saturday.

Ramírez is in sixth place in the Major Leagues with a batting average of .317 and is tied for sixth place with 21 stolen bases. In addition, he is a finalist to be a starter in the American League All-Star Game on July 15 in Atlanta.
