Logan Gilbert Returns to the Mariners’ Rotation
Right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert is ready to return to action. He will be activated from the 15-day injured list and will take the mound for the Seattle Mariners on Monday against the Boston Red Sox, according to manager Dan Wilson.
Gilbert, 28, has been on the injured list since April 26 due to a strain in his right elbow flexor. During his rehabilitation, he made three appearances with the Triple-A Tacoma team, recording a 0-0 record with an ERA of 2.79 and 11 strikeouts in 9⅔ innings.
So far this season, Gilbert is 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in six starts with the Mariners, accumulating 44 strikeouts and only six walks in 30⅓ innings.
Last season, Gilbert finished sixth in the voting for the American League Cy Young Award, with a 9-12 record and a 3.23 ERA. He has been a consistent pitcher, making at least 32 starts in each of the last three seasons. In his five seasons in the Major Leagues, Gilbert has a 42-31 record with a 3.55 ERA.
Gilbert’s return is a big boost for Seattle’s rotation, which has faced challenges due to injuries this season. Mariners’ starters have an ERA of 4.09 this season, ranking 18th in the Major Leagues. Last year, Seattle’s rotation led the league in ERA.
