Dominic Smith to Injured List with Muscle Injury

San Francisco Giants infielder Dominic Smith was placed on the 10-day injured list this Saturday. The cause: a strain in his right hamstring. The injury occurred while he was trying to catch a ball at first base on Friday night.

The game in which Smith was injured ended with a 5-1 victory in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

To fill the position on the roster, the Giants activated infielder and outfielder Jerar Encarnación from the injured list, following his rehabilitation assignment.

The play in which Smith was injured occurred in the top of the fourth inning, with two outs. Third baseman Matt Chapman fielded a hard ground ball from Andy Pages and threw to first. Smith, in an effort to make the play, stretched to the maximum.

The Dodgers challenged the decision, but the replay confirmed the out. Smith was replaced by Wilmer Flores.
