Casey Schmitt Undergoes Wrist Surgery, Delays His Season Preparation

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt underwent surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday. The recovery time is expected to be between eight and ten weeks, which could affect his participation in the start of spring training in February, if rehabilitation proceeds as planned.

The procedure, performed by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles, consisted of the extraction of a small bony mass, known as a “carpal boss”. The team announced that the surgery was successful.

Schmitt, 26, batted .237, with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs in 95 games with the Giants this season. He played 53 games at second base, 26 at third base, and 18 at first base.

The team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, leading to the firing of manager Bob Melvin. Instead, the team appointed Tony Vitello, coach of the University of Tennessee.
