Zach Eflin Returns to the Orioles’ Rotation
The Baltimore Orioles will have right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin, who is returning from the injured list this Wednesday to start the game against the Cleveland Guardians.Eflin, 31 years old, last pitched on June 28 against Tampa Bay, where he allowed four runs on five hits in one inning of work. In his first full season with Baltimore, Eflin has a 6-5 record with a 5.95 ERA in 12 starts, with 42 strikeouts in 62 innings. Throughout his career, he has compiled a 68-67 record with a 4.27 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-22), the Rays (2023-24), and the Orioles. Mansolino also informed that Baltimore’s number one catcher, Adley Rutschman, is close to returning from a left oblique strain. Rutschman participated in a rehab game on Tuesday in Triple-A Norfolk as a designated hitter, where he hit a hit in three at-bats. Mansolino indicated to reporters that he wants Rutschman to play two consecutive games as a catcher before being activated. Rutschman, a former first draft pick, is in his fourth season in the Major Leagues and was batting .227 with 8 home runs and 20 RBIs in 68 games before his injury. His last game with the Orioles was on June 19.“Being on the injured list for the lower back strain has him unhappy,” Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters on Tuesday. “He’s really optimistic about his condition and his mindset. We’re eager to see him take the ball tomorrow.”
