Manny Mota, Dodgers Legend, Recovering After Suffering a Stroke

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Manny Mota is stable, resting, and responding to medical treatment at a Los Angeles hospital, the team confirmed via social media.

“Dad never lost consciousness during the incident and is currently doing well,” stated José Mota, team commentator and former player.

Manny Mota, 87, has dedicated 56 years to the Dodgers, serving as a player, coach, commentator, and, more recently, as part of the group of veterans that serves as a link between the club and the community.

Mota played with the Dodgers for the last 13 years of a two-decade career that began in 1962 with the San Francisco Giants. He then spent the next 35 years as a coach, a record for the Los Angeles franchise.

Mota, during his career, batted .304 and was selected for the 1973 All-Star Game. His 150 pinch hits were a Major League record for two decades until Lenny Harris surpassed it in 1999. In his 13 seasons with the Dodgers, Mota batted .315 in 1,923 at-bats, primarily as a pinch hitter.

In the Dominican League, Mota is the all-time leader with a batting average of .333. He also won several championships as manager of the Tigres del Licey, who were previously exclusive partners of the Dodgers.
