Devin Williams and the Mets: Agreement for More Than 50 Million Dollars
Free agent reliever Devin Williams and the New York Mets have reached a three-year agreement guaranteeing more than $50 million. The information was confirmed after initial reports.
Williams, 31, became a free agent after a complicated season.
Acquired last December from the Milwaukee Brewers, Williams had a season with an ERA of 4.79 in 67 appearances.
Saved 18 games out of 22 opportunities, but shared the closer role after a difficult start.
Williams had four scoreless outings during the postseason, although David Bednar earned the Mets’ two saves in the playoffs.
Before arriving at the Mets, Williams established himself as a top-tier pitcher in the bullpen during his six seasons with Milwaukee, first as a setup reliever and then as a replacement for Josh Hader.
