SAN DIEGO – San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish will be activated from the injured list and will make his season debut on Monday night at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Japanese star has been out of action since spring training due to inflammation in his right elbow.
The manager Mike Shildt made these statements before the Padres finished a series against the Texas Rangers on Sunday night. “We always have an open day on the schedule for Yu Darvish to start,” he added. It really comes down to a physical aspect.

Making an opening on Monday night will allow Darvish to make another start before the All-Star break.
Darvish, who will turn 39 on August 16, threw a bullpen session on Saturday after pitching two simulated games against minor league players in the last two weeks. Darvish missed a significant amount of time in 2024 due to an elbow injury and a personal issue. He made five starts in September and finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and a 3.31 ERA. He had a good performance in two starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a National League Division Series, earning the win in Game 2 and suffering the loss in Game 5. The Padres went from having a 2-1 series lead to not scoring in the last 24 innings against the eventual World Series champions.
