Miguel Amaya Returns to Injured List After Ankle Injury
Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya returns to the injured list after suffering a left ankle sprain. This news comes just after his return from a prolonged absence. Amaya injured herself on Wednesday night while playing against the Toronto Blue Jays. The incident occurred when Amaya stepped on first base. After his foot landed awkwardly on the base, Amaya was carted off the field on a stretcher after twisting in the air. Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed that X-rays revealed no fracture. Counsell commented that Amaya’s ankle was already very swollen and that his absence will be felt in the team. Amaya, 26 years old, had returned to action on Tuesday after being out since May 25 due to a strain in the left oblique. Before his previous injury, Amaya had maintained a batting average of .280 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 27 games. To fill Amaya’s position on the roster, the Cubs called up outfielder Owen Caissie, their No. 2 prospect. Caissie, 23, has been batting .292 with 22 home runs and an OPS of .966 in Triple-A Iowa. Caissie was acquired in December 2020 in a trade involving Yu Darvish. He will make his debut as a designated hitter in the final game of the series against Toronto on Thursday, batting fifth.“I hate to see what happened,” Cade Horton said about Amaya.
