Contreras Brothers Make History with Home Runs in the Same Inning

The brothers Willson and William Contreras starred in a historic moment in modern baseball, becoming the second pair of brothers to hit home runs in the same inning, but as opponents. The exciting encounter took place on Saturday, during the St. Louis Cardinals’ victory over the Milwaukee Brewers with a score of 8-5, breaking a six-game losing streak for the Cardinals. Willson Contreras hit his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot that extended St. Louis’ lead to 8-4 in the top of the ninth inning. William Contreras responded in the bottom of the same inning, leading the offense with his sixth home run of the season.

This achievement places the Contreras brothers in a select group, being the first to achieve it since Rick and Wes Ferrell, who accomplished it on July 19, 1933.

After Willson’s home run, the tension was felt on the field, although there was no exchange of words between the brothers.

When we are in the game, we are not exactly family. We are competing.

William Contreras
William downplayed the tension, emphasizing the competitiveness of the game. The last time brothers connected home runs in the same inning was April 10, 2024, with Josh and Bo Naylor, playing for Cleveland.
