MIAMI – Nick Castellanos returned to the Philadelphia Phillies’ lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins, after being sidelined the previous day for an “inappropriate comment.” The outfielder was substituted on Monday for a defensive change.
It’s over. It’s over. We’re good.
Thomson made these statements on Wednesday, referring to the suspension that ended Castellanos’ streak of 236 consecutive starts.
Castellanos played in right field and singled in four at-bats against the Marlins on Monday. Johan Rojas replaced him in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Philadelphia up 3-1. Max Kepler moved to right field and Rojas played in center.
After Monday’s game, Thomson explained that his intention was to introduce Rojas behind Philadelphia’s right-handed pitching, indicating that it could be the plan going forward.
Thomson added on Wednesday that this approach “simply depends on the situations”.
When asked if he would agree to take Castellanos out in a similar situation on Wednesday, Thomson replied: “Probably not today.”
The plan was for Castellanos to only be a substitute for Tuesday’s game, Thomson added. The Phillies lost that game 8-3.
Castellanos, 33 years old, is in his fourth season with the Phillies, who are in second place in the National League East Division. Batting .278 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs.
