Cardinals Place Victor Scott II on Injured List

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Victor Scott II on the 10-day injured list before the final game of the series against the Yankees.

After an MRI, it was revealed that Scott is suffering from a sprained left ankle. The injury occurred after a collision with the outfield fence while trying to catch a home run by Aaron Judge in the third inning of Saturday’s game, which ended with a Yankees victory with a score of 12-8.

To cover absences, outfielder Nathan Church and left-handed pitcher Anthony Veneziano have been called up from Triple-A Memphis. In addition, right-handed pitcher Roddery Muñoz was sent to Memphis.

Church will take the title in center field and bat ninth on Sunday.

Scott came close to robbing Judge of his first career home run against the Cardinals, leaping over the center field fence with his glove, but landed unfavorably on his left ankle.

In the current season, Scott has participated in 116 games, with a batting average of .223, five home runs, 35 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases.

In addition to Scott, two more starters remain out of the St. Louis lineup: first baseman Willson Contreras, due to a right foot contusion, and second baseman Brendan Donovan, affected by discomfort in his left foot and groin.

Contreras was hit by a pitch in the foot on Tuesday and hasn’t played since. Alec Burleson has been the starter at first base in the four games for St. Louis since Contreras was out.

Donovan has been dealing with leg and foot injuries since he was removed from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 10, due to a sprain in the capsule of his left big toe. He has not played in the series against the Yankees.
