Al LeBoeuf, Brewers Hitting Coach, Recovering From Surgery

The Milwaukee Brewers’ hitting coach, Al LeBoeuf, is temporarily away from the team after undergoing prostate surgery. According to reports from the Brewers this Tuesday, LeBoeuf is expected to rejoin the team, although an exact date was not specified. The operation took place on Monday. This season marks LeBoeuf’s debut as a coach in the Major Leagues. He was named the primary hitting coach last October, after having worked as a hitting coach in Triple-A for the last six seasons.

Everyone who knows him loves him. He is a man who is clearly passionate about baseball and the information he handles. We have really enjoyed having him and hope he returns as soon as possible.

Pat Murphy, Brewers Manager
Brewers manager Pat Murphy also indicated that no minor league coaches will be brought in to cover LeBoeuf’s absence. The team has three hitting coaches on its staff: LeBoeuf, Connor Dawson, and Eric Theisen. LeBoeuf, 65, is in his sixteenth season with the Brewers organization. Many of the team’s hitters have a long relationship with him, which began as they moved up through the minor leagues. Sal Frelick, Brewers outfielder, expressed his support and highlighted LeBoeuf’s importance to the team.

Sal Frelick’s Statements

Frelick indicated that they received good news about LeBoeuf’s operation. LeBoeuf was diagnosed on July 12 with a form of cancer in his right hip, although he was declared cancer-free the following year. The condition was related to a hit he received in the hip while playing for the Triple-A Portland team in 1985, which resulted in a deep bone bruise.
