Alex Bregman Activated by the Red Sox
The Red Sox have activated All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday’s game against Tampa Bay. Bregman, who has been out of action since May 24 due to a right quadriceps strain, returned to his usual position on the field and was placed in the second spot in Boston’s lineup for the second game of a four-game series against the Rays. The injury occurred when Bregman rounded first base and felt tension in his quadriceps. The two-time World Series winner, who spent the first nine seasons of his career in the Major Leagues with the Astros, signed a $120 million three-year contract in February. At the time of the injury, he was batting .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. These statistics led him to be selected for the American League All-Star team for the third time since he debuted in the majors with the Astros in 2016. Bregman missed 43 games due to a quadriceps strain. Earlier this week, he informed reporters that his recovery was going so well that he didn’t think he would need a minor league rehab assignment. With three games remaining before the All-Star break, the Red Sox agreed that it was the right time to reincorporate a player to a team that on Friday held one of the three American League wild card spots. He’s going to do his part. Obviously, the timing, we’ll see where he is, but he’s been working hard on his swing… visualizing and watching videos.
