Atlanta Braves Claim Alek Manoah

The Atlanta Braves have added right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah to their ranks, who was previously part of the Toronto Blue Jays. Manoah, recognized for his performance in previous seasons, joins the team after being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays. In 2022, Manoah had an outstanding performance, finishing third in the voting for the American League Cy Young Award. His record includes a 16-7 record with an ERA of 2.24. The pitcher, who was Toronto’s opening day starter in 2023, experienced difficulties that led to him being sent to the Florida Rookie League in June of that year. After returning to the main team in July, Manoah had a 2-2 record with an ERA of 4.91 in seven starts. Subsequently, he was sent to Triple-A in August and did not pitch again in any league. In the previous year, Manoah recorded a 1-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in five starts, covering 24 and a third innings, before undergoing elbow surgery that ended his season. Recently, Manoah was pitching in Triple-A Buffalo, where he was in elbow rehabilitation. In seven starts with the Bisons, he achieved a 1-1 record with a 2.97 ERA. He allowed six home runs out of the 27 hits he conceded. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Atlanta Braves transferred infielder Ozzie Albies to the 60-day injured list. Albies was diagnosed with a fracture in the hook of his left hand earlier this week.
