Atlanta Braves bolster pitching with Carlos Carrasco
The Atlanta Braves have acquired veteran right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco from the New York Yankees in a move announced this Monday in exchange for cash considerations.
Carrasco, 38 years old, had been designated for assignment by the Yankees in May before accepting an assignment to remain in the organization and join the roster in Triple-A Scranton.
This season, Carrasco recorded a 2-2 record with an ERA of 5.91 in eight appearances (six as a starter) with the Yankees and a 4-2 with an ERA of 3.27 in 11 appearances (10 as a starter) in Triple-A.
This acquisition comes one day after the Braves added right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde, who was designated for assignment by the St. Louis Cardinals.
In his 16 seasons in the Major Leagues, Carrasco has a record of 112-105 with an ERA of 4.18 in 332 appearances (283 as a starter) for the Cleveland Indians (2009-2020), the New York Mets (2021-23), the Cleveland Guardians (2024) and the Yankees.
The Braves are currently facing injury issues in their pitching staff, including Chris Sale (ribs), Grant Holmes (elbow), Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow).
