Brady Anderson Joins the Angels as New Hitting Coach
Los Angeles Angels have confirmed the addition of Brady Anderson as their new hitting coach. The former MLB All-Star assumes this role, marking his official debut as a coach.
Anderson, recognized for his long career with the Baltimore Orioles, where he played until 2002 and then played a prominent role in the team’s management, will work alongside John Mabry, who has been hired as his assistant. Mabry brings considerable experience as a batting coach.
Both Anderson, 61, and Mabry, 55, join the team of the new Angels manager, Kurt Suzuki, who signed a one-year contract this offseason. The Angels have also brought in John Gibbons as bench coach, Mike Maddux as pitching coach, Adam Eaton as first base coach, Keith Johnson as third base coach, Max Stassi as catching coach, and Andy Schatzley as infield coach.
Anderson stood out as an Orioles outfielder between 1988 and 2001. His best season was in 1996, with a .297 average, 110 RBIs, and 50 home runs, a franchise record at the time.
After his retirement, Anderson joined the Orioles’ board of directors, where he was vice president of baseball operations from 2013 to 2018.
Mabry, for his part, had a 14-year career in the Major Leagues, from 1994 to 2007, and has been part of the coaching staff of several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins and, recently, the Orioles, where he served as a senior advisor last season.
