The Washington Nationals have decided to dispense with the services of reliever Lucas Sims, after the right-handed pitcher allowed three runs in less than an inning in two consecutive appearances.

Sims, who turned 31 on Saturday, has an ERA of 13.86 in 18 relief appearances this season.

In nine seasons in the Major Leagues, playing for four different teams, including seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Sims has a record of 23-19 with an ERA of 4.86 in 263 appearances (14 as a starter).

In a corresponding move, the Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Rochester.

Brzykcy, 25, has made seven relief appearances in the last two seasons for the Nationals, with an ERA of 13.50.
