Oakland A’s Move Forward on Las Vegas Stadium Construction
According to the project director, the foundation works for the Athletics stadium have been completed. Both the construction company and the team confirmed to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority that they are on schedule for the inauguration before the 2028 season. This statement aligns with the message conveyed in the December meeting with the Stadium Authority. The Stadium Authority also approved the A’s request to sell personal seat licenses. Sandy Dean, vice president of the Athletics, reported that the team has invested $300 million in the $2 billion, 33,000-seat indoor stadium, without yet requesting public funding. As construction progresses on the Las Vegas Strip, the A’s are about to play the second of three seasons scheduled in a Triple-A stadium in West Sacramento, California. Previously, they played 57 seasons in Oakland, California. We are very pleased to continue to meet the project schedule.
Tyler Van Eeckhaut, Mortenson-McCarthy project director
Van Eeckhaut offered a detailed update on the construction status, noting that two of the buttresses are finished and work is being done on the lower level of the suites and in the main lobby. He stated that all buttress work should be completed in May and that the vertical construction already underway should continue. It’s good to be here on a day when we have a lot of tangible progress to report.
Sandy Dean, Vice President of Athletics
Dean indicated that the A’s have not decided when they will request public funding. Nevada and Clark County have approved up to $380 million in public funds for the stadium, and the A’s have stated that they will cover the remaining expenses. Dean added after the meeting that the A’s have attracted some outside investors. Regarding personal seat licenses, A’s President Marc Badain informed the Stadium Authority that they would be for “a select number of seats,” primarily in high-end areas. He noted that five or six other MLB teams also sell these licenses.I feel very good about the progress. They listened to Tyler’s comments about where they are on the calendar, and we have practically met all the deadlines. The county has been great to work with. I feel very good about that.
Badain
Badain emphasized to the Stadium Authority that there would be a number of seats in the price range of 20 and 30 dollars, and that there would likely be tickets aimed at attracting families to the stadium. The A’s are in spring training in Mesa, Arizona, but will play against the Los Angeles Angels in two preseason games in Las Vegas on March 7 and 8. The club will also return to play six regular season games at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate, in June against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Colorado Rockies. Badain indicated that tickets for regular season games were first offered to those who made deposits for A’s of Las Vegas season tickets and sold out in 24 hours. More tickets will go on sale later, he added. The groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium, located on the Las Vegas Strip, was held on June 23. The A’s Ballpark Experience Center in Las Vegas opened in December to give fans the opportunity to see the stadium in detail and participate in other immersive experiences. We researched the market. We have a list of deposits (for season tickets) of more than 20,000. We contacted people. The demand was there, so we are going to use that to help with the project.
