Taylor Trammell Escapes Sanction for Two-Tone Bat
Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell will not face any sanctions from MLB after umpires confiscated his two-toned bat. The request for review of the bat was made by New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone after a double hit by the player. Trammell revealed that he spoke with MLB officials, who explained the situation to him. The explanation focused on a discoloration on the dark part of the bat, which made it non-compliant with regulations.MLB rules state that two-tone bats must have two sections of a single color. The discoloration, although it probably didn’t affect performance, caused the bat to not comply with the regulations. During the interruption in the ninth inning of Thursday’s game, both managers spoke with the home plate umpire, Adrian Johnson. Afterward, the umpire consulted the replay office in New York before handing the bat to an official. Boone commented that he requested the bat review after being told that something didn’t seem right. Boone expressed that he was satisfied with the decision and the explanation. Trammell, who played five games for the Yankees last season before joining Houston in November, wasn’t sure if he would get the bat back. However, he would like to have it.We see this often with some players who may have a wristband or something like that, and they just have to take it off. It’s nothing serious, it didn’t impact the ball or anything like that.

When asked about his bats for the series against the Rangers, Trammell showed the bat he had used in batting practice. Trammell pointed to a small mark on the bat and added: “We’ve moved on. As I said, I respect both organizations and I’m glad how it all turned out.”He’d probably want it, just to have a story to tell my grandkids. It’s a cool, fun little story. I don’t know if they’ll give it back. They put a sticker on it, so at least it’s authenticated… So someone’s going to have it.
