Anthony Takes Off with Jonrón and Leads the Red Sox to Victory
SEATTLE – Rookie star Roman Anthony, after a challenging start in the Major Leagues, proved his worth with an impressive home run, propelling the Boston Red Sox to a crucial victory. Manager Alex Cora, known for his good humor, joked about the situation before the game. “We were joking before the game. I made up that he sent me a message last night saying ‘Bro, come on, bat me third'”, Cora commented. Cora’s decision to place Anthony in the third spot in the batting order proved to be a success. The 21-year-old right fielder hit a slider from Seattle Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert for his first home run in the majors, sealing a 2-0 victory.Despite a modest start to his Major League career, Anthony has maintained confidence. Before the game, his batting average was .059 in six games with the Red Sox. “I haven’t felt overwhelmed, so I’m not worried,” Anthony said. “I’m just trying to keep passing the (baton) to the next guy and finding ways to move forward, and I know it’s coming soon. So it was good to get that first one out of the way today and look to keep going with this.” Anthony, the youngest player to debut with the Red Sox since Rafael Devers, who was recently traded, is now looking to establish himself as a key piece on the team. Coincidentally, Devers also hit his first home run in the majors against the Mariners, in July 2017. With a streak of six consecutive victories and nine in their last 11 games, the Red Sox are confident in their young talents, including Anthony, to maintain momentum. It was incredible. It was even better that we got a big win there.

Anthony, selected in the second round of the draft, went viral this month for a 497-foot grand slam with Worcester. In 58 games with the WooSox this season, he batted .288 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. Now, you can add a home run in the Major Leagues to your achievements, and let your parents enjoy the souvenir ball.As I said before the game, this is who we are,” Cora said. “We’re going to use the young guys. They’re going to play.

“I usually give them to my parents and let them do the work,” Anthony said. “And they do all the framing and everything. So, I’ll definitely give it to them.”
