Roman Anthony Shines at Yankee Stadium: Red Sox Defeat Yankees 6-3

Rookie Roman Anthony had an unforgettable night at Yankee Stadium, hitting a two-run homer in the ninth inning and driving in three runs in total, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Anthony, who had previously driven in a run with a single in the sixth inning, hit his fifth career home run against Yerry De Los Santos, after first baseman Paul Goldschmidt committed the Yankees’ fourth error of the game.

Nathaniel Lowe also contributed to the triumph with a run-scoring double in the seventh inning against Luke Weaver, giving Boston a 4-3 lead.

Anthony became the fourth Red Sox rookie to hit a home run against the Yankees this season, joining Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, and Carlos Narváez. This is the most rookie home runs by the Red Sox against the Yankees in a season since 2014.

Despite struggling with runners in scoring position, the Red Sox managed to snap a three-game losing streak and moved within one game of the Yankees in the race for the top American League Wild Card spot.

The Red Sox have won six consecutive games against New York, their longest winning streak in the rivalry since 2023, when they won seven.

Ceddanne Rafaela scored Boston’s first run thanks to a throwing error by catcher Ben Rice.

For the Yankees, Rice hit a home run and Goldschmidt drove in a run with a single.

Boston’s opener, Lucas Giolito, allowed three runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Red Sox bullpen combined to pitch 5 1/3 scoreless innings, including Greg Weissert, who allowed just one hit in 1 1/3 innings.

Yankees’ opener Luis Gil allowed two runs (one earned) and four hits in five innings, with five walks.
