CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Guardians activated pitcher Paul Sewald from the injured list before Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.The right-handed pitcher had been out of action since April 29 due to a strain in his right shoulder. Sewald is 1-1 with a 6.17 ERA in 14 appearances this season. The 34-year-old also struggled with injuries last season with Arizona.Left-handed pitcher Doug Nikhazy was sent to Triple-A Columbus.In addition, on Saturday, Shane Bieber threw 30 pitches to Double-A Akron hitters as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow performed last year.Manager Stephen Vogt said Bieber was expected to face hitters once more before possibly beginning a rehab assignment. The 2020 American League Cy Young winner has been sidelined for a month after experiencing pain following a rehab start on May 31 in Arizona and a bullpen session three days later.
