JACKSON, Miss. – Vince Whaley starred in a moment of tension at the Sanderson Farms Championship, demonstrating composure and skill under pressure. The golfer faced an unusual challenge on the 11th hole, a par 5, when he had to execute a shot with an approximately 6-foot alligator watching closely. Whaley, who was one stroke off the lead at that moment, remained focused despite the presence of the reptile, which emerged with its head out of the water.

“Well, fortunately, I turned my back so I could focus on the shot for a second,” Whaley commented, adding that he had “a lot of confidence” in his caddie, who was monitoring the situation.

The caiman remained still while Whaley executed his shot. The ball fell near the green, and the golfer achieved a par. He finished the day with a score of 67 strokes, tying for third place. What was the plan if the caiman moved? “The plan was to get out of the water as quickly as possible,” he stated.
