JACKSON, Miss. – Vince Whaley starred in an unusual moment at the Sanderson Farms Championship, demonstrating composure and courage in the face of an unusual danger on the golf course. Whaley, known for his skill in the game, faced an additional challenge when an alligator approximately six feet long became a spectator of his game. The incident occurred on the 11th hole, a par 5, where Whaley had to play a shot from the edge of the water. Despite the presence of the alligator, which was watching attentively, Whaley remained calm and achieved an extraordinary par. The golfer, who at that moment was one stroke behind the leader, revealed that he was aware of the reptile’s presence, which was keeping its head out of the water, watching him.

“Fortunately, I turned my back so I could focus on the shot for a second,” Whaley commented, adding that he was relying on his caddie to monitor the situation.

The caiman didn’t move, and Whaley, after a precise hit, got a pair. He finished the day with a score of 67 strokes, tying for third position. When asked about his plan in case the alligator moved, Whaley responded with humor:

“The plan was to run out of the water”
