Adam Svensson leads the 3M Open with an impressive 60

Adam Svensson signed a card of 60 strokes, 11 under par, in the first round of the 3M Open, giving him a two-stroke lead over his closest competitors. The Canadian golfer culminated his outstanding performance with an eagle from 48 feet on the final hole. Svensson, in addition to his spectacular eagle, achieved nine birdies without committing any bogeys, setting the course record at the TPC Twin Cities. His performance equaled the mark set by Paul Goydos at the 2017 3M Championship. Chris Gotterup, who finished third at last week’s British Open and won the Scottish Open two weeks ago, is three strokes behind Svensson, along with Chad Ramey and Matthias Schmid. Zac Blair, Chris Kirk, Jake Knapp, and Brendan Valdes are one stroke away from Gotterup. Rickie Fowler and Emiliano Grillo are among the players who are 6 under par.

I had a great session on the practice field today. I really put incredible, I made a lot of shots. It was probably my best putting round I’ve had.

This 60 is the second-lowest score on the PGA Tour this season, surpassed only by Knapp’s 59 at the Cognizant Classic in February. Sam Stevens, for his part, could have matched the 59 with an eagle on the 18th hole, but his second shot from 246 yards ended up in the water, resulting in a bogey and a card of 62. Fowler and Grillo, among others, need a good performance to secure their place in the first playoff event. Patrick Rodgers and Gary Woodland, with 66 and 67 strokes respectively, are also in the competition. Keith Mitchell and Cam Davis had 68 and 71 strokes. Defending champion Jhonattan Vegas signed a card of 68 strokes. Haotong Li, who was in the last pairing with Scottie Scheffler at the British Open, finished with 70 strokes.
