Sorenstam leads the Senior Women’s Open with a solid opening round

CHULA VISTA, California – Annika Sorenstam took the lead in the first round of the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, held at the San Diego Country Club, after an outstanding performance that led her to record a score of 3 under par, with a total of 70 strokes.Sorenstam, who already has a title in this tournament in 2021, adds to her history victories in the US Women’s Opens in 1995, 1996 and 2006. The Swedish golfer, 54 years old, has 72 victories on the LPGA Tour.

I am very happy with the first round. I felt quite solid from tee to green. I think I ended up with good approach shots on the right side of the flag, which is very helpful on this course.

Annika SorenstamMoira Dunn-Bohls was one stroke away, sharing position with amateur Lara Tennant and 72-year-old Barb Moxness, who beat her own age on the course. Trish Johnson, the 2023 champion, and Corina Kelepouris are also in the competition, one stroke away from Dunn-Bohls.Karrie Webb, in her first participation in the event, recorded a 73.
