Sei Young Kim Leads the BMW Ladies Championship

South Korean golfer Sei Young Kim solidified her leading position at the BMW Ladies Championship after a standout performance on the second day. Kim, who started the tournament with an impressive round of 62 strokes (-10), maintained his good pace and signed a card of 66 strokes on Friday, accumulating a total of 16 under par (128 strokes) at the Pine Beach Golf Links. His performance included a bogey and seven birdies, highlighting a streak of three consecutive birdies in the first part of the course.

“There is a lot of pressure on the third and fourth days, but I am not the only one. Everyone will feel the same pressure. But I want to accept the fact and enjoy the rest of the tournament”.

Brooke Matthews, from the United States, placed second with a round of 64 strokes, the best score of the day. Hyo Joo Kim and Rio Takeda shared third place, three strokes behind the leader. Matthews, a former University of Arkansas player, had a bogey-free round that included birdies on her first two holes and on holes 17 and 18.

“It’s funny, I wasn’t feeling very comfortable coming into this week, after playing in China last week, I really didn’t have my best game. But that made me go out and play shot by shot, lower expectations and I feel like I handled it very well. I just stayed in the moment and ended up making some putts and accumulating good scores.”

Minjee Lee of Australia, with 66 strokes, placed sixth, six strokes behind Kim. Canada’s Brooke Henderson, with 68 strokes, was seven strokes behind the leader, while defending champion Hannah Green, with 69 strokes, was nine strokes behind Kim. This tournament marks the start of two consecutive LPGA events in South Korea, followed by the International Crown team tournament next week. Last week, Jeeno Thitikul became the first player with multiple wins on the LPGA this season.
