Adam Scott Seeks to Break Drought at Australian PGA Championship
Adam Scott, the prominent golfer, is in a promising position for his third title at the Australian PGA Championship. Despite a five-year drought without victories in 72-hole events, Scott demonstrated his skill with an impressive round on Saturday. The former world number one and Masters champion shot a round of 66 on Saturday, with eight birdies and three bogeys. This briefly put him in a tie for the lead, before finishing at eleven under par and placing ninth. The competition is fierce, with Min Woo Lee, Marc Leishman, Anthony Quayle, David Puig from Spain and Ricardo Gouveia from Portugal, all with chances to surpass Scott in the rankings. Scott, with 32 career victories, hasn’t won a 72-hole event since the Genesis Invitational in 2020. At 45 years old, he remains optimistic about his chances and demonstrated his potential to win the Kirkwood Cup for the third time.Scott got off to a solid start, reaching four under par in the first nine holes. After a two-hour rain delay, he returned with consecutive birdies on holes 12 and 13, which allowed him to share the lead. Although he had a bogey on the next hole, he recovered with a birdie on the 15th, but a mistake on the 17th left him with a difficult putt for par. Despite the pressure, Scott focuses on the process. “I’m not thinking about winning… I’m fulfilling all the requirements and doing a better job of things,” he commented. “But I’ve put myself in a good position.”It’s hard to complain about 66. I’m going to have to have a really good round. I’ll have to close well too. I’m chasing. I can’t stall. It’s going to have to be a beauty tomorrow.
