Scottie Scheffler Seeks Caddie for Tour Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is in an uncertain situation regarding his regular caddie, Ted Scott, for the upcoming Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Scheffler will have a temporary caddie at this week’s BMW Championship, the second stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Scott had to withdraw before the final round of last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis due to a family emergency in Louisiana.

“Ted is where he needs to be at the moment,” Scheffler commented after his Wednesday pro-am. “I think being a caddie is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be. I’ve been able to talk to him a few times. The family is in good spirits. It seems like everyone is doing well.”

Michael Cromie will be Scheffler’s caddie this week.

“Mike is a great guy,” Scheffler said. “He works very hard. He does a good job and we’re both learning a new golf course this week.”

Cromie works for Chris Kirk, who ranked 51st in points after last week’s tournament. The top 50 golfers in FedEx Cup points advanced to the BMW Championship.

“I’m just going to try to replace it as best I can this week,” Scheffler commented. “A lot of it is just more routine. Like, ‘Hey, how do you like the numbers?’ And when I say, ‘I hit the hold shot,’ what does that mean? Just little things like that we’re figuring out as the week goes on.”

After Scott had to go home last week, Scheffler’s friend, Brad Payne, worked the final round in Memphis. Scheffler signed a card of 67 strokes under par in the final round and tied for third place with 15 under par, one stroke away from a tiebreaker. Payne is president of the College Golf Fellowship and previously carried Scheffler’s bag in the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla, when Scott was attending his daughter’s graduation. Scott was in the bag for each of Scheffler’s 17 PGA Tour victories, which include four major championships.
