Scheffler nears victory at the British Open

Golfer Scottie Scheffler is one step away from conquering the third major of his career after an outstanding performance at the British Open. Scheffler, with a round of 67 strokes (-4), achieved a four-stroke lead at Royal Portrush. The fans, supporting Rory McIlroy, were thrilled with a spectacular 55-foot eagle. However, attention is now focused on Scheffler, who has shown remarkable consistency, especially when leading after 54 holes.

I am trying to execute, without thinking too much about things. I feel like I have been doing the right thing so far, and I look forward to tomorrow’s challenge.

Scheffler shone with an eagle on the 7th hole, followed by important par saves on the 11th and 14th. On the dangerous 16th hole, known as “Calamity Corner”, he achieved a birdie, consolidating his position at the top. With this performance, Scheffler moves closer to the coveted trophy, adding to his victory at the PGA Championship and the two green jackets from the Masters. Scheffler leads with a total of -14, surpassing China’s Haotong Li (69 strokes) and Matt Fitzpatrick (71 strokes). Fitzpatrick, after missing some key putts, is five strokes behind Scheffler. Li, for his part, will seek to make history, as he did in the 2020 PGA Championship. Chris Gotterup, in his British Open debut, signed a round of 68 strokes and joined the group at -8, along with McIlroy, Harris English, and Tyrrell Hatton. This is Scheffler’s biggest lead after 54 holes in a major.
