In the middle of the golf course and wearing the full uniform of the United States Ryder Cup team, Keegan Bradley watched the best golfers in the world in action. The atmosphere at the Silverado Resort North Course was one of camaraderie and anticipation, as the team prepared for the tournament. The relaxed atmosphere contrasted with the usual pressure of the tournaments, as the PGA Tour season had concluded and the team was set. Now, attention is focused on Bethpage and the 12 players that Bradley hopes to lead to victory.

The Ryder Cup as a Priority

Participation in the Procore Championship, a PGA Tour event in Napa Valley, became a key gathering for the Ryder Cup team. Bradley highlighted the importance of the event for the players, who demonstrate their commitment and willingness to prepare to the fullest.

Unlike in 2023, most of the American team members participated in this and other golf events before the Ryder Cup defeat in Rome. Ten of the twelve team members competed in the tournament, sharing rounds with their teammates. Although Bryson DeChambeau did not participate in the tournament, he attended a dinner organized for the team. Xander Schauffele, for his part, could not attend due to the birth of his first child. The initiative to keep the players active and strengthen the team’s chemistry came from the golfers themselves, according to Bradley. Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele expressed their desire to play in this event from the beginning of the year.

“To stay in shape, you can practice and do everything you can at home, but there’s something different about playing in competition,” Scheffler said.

Practice at Silverado was intense, with players like Justin Thomas and Russell Henley analyzing the green’s slope, while Scheffler’s caddie prepared the balls for putting practice. On the practice range, Harris English and Collin Morikawa worked on their ball striking. Bradley, along with assistant captain Webb Simpson, observed the players for a few rounds. The game combinations and tournament schedules could indicate possible pairings for the competition. The atmosphere in Napa is described as a “lighter scene”, ideal for relaxation before the competition in Long Island.

Bradley has implemented significant changes, from the organization of the week to constant communication with the team. His approach has been well received, with players like Woodland highlighting his openness and commitment. With the Ryder Cup just around the corner, Napa has become a key preparation stage for the American team. Although the final results are uncertain, the week in Napa could be crucial for the team’s success in the Ryder Cup and in future competitions.
