Jon Rahm Seeks His Fourth Title at the Spanish Open

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm is in the fight for his fourth title at the Spanish Open, after an outstanding performance that included seven birdies on Friday.

Rahm, Ryder Cup winner, scored 66 strokes, five under par. However, he is five strokes behind the leader, Englishman Marco Penge, who signed a card of 67 strokes.

On the other hand, Shane Lowry, also a Ryder Cup champion, failed to recover from a complicated start and missed the cut.

Penge, with a bogey-free round and four birdies, leads the tournament with a one-stroke advantage over Jeff Winther of Denmark, Joel Girbach of Switzerland, and Aaron Cockerill of Canada.

Rahm, currently in 18th place, seeks to surpass Seve Ballesteros as the most successful golfer in the tournament since the creation of the European circuit in 1972.

Rahm has participated in Madrid seven times, achieving victory in 2018, 2019 and 2022. In the previous edition, he came in second place, being surpassed by his compatriot Ángel Hidalgo in a playoff.

Hidalgo, the defending champion, will not be able to defend his title, as he failed to make the cut.
