Potgieter and Campbell Secure Their Place at The Open
Golfers Aldrich Potgieter and Brian Campbell secured victories in PGA Tour tournaments in the last two weeks, which has guaranteed them a spot in the upcoming Open, to be held at Royal Portrush.
The prestigious The Open tournament, which has a field of 156 players, initially had only 150 places available for those who qualified or met the exemption criteria.
The list of alternates for The Open is based on this week’s world ranking. Potgieter, after his victory at the Rocket Classic two weeks ago, was ranked number 123 in the world. Campbell, who won the John Deere Classic on Sunday, was ranked 115.
Both players climbed high enough in the world ranking to be among the top six players who were not yet exempt to participate in The Open. The other golfers who joined the event were Nico Echavarria, Michael Kim, Bud Cauley and Davis Thompson, who secured the last spot by a narrow margin, surpassing Si Woo Kim.
The Open tournament will take place from July 17 to 20.
