The PGA Championship is one of the four major tournaments of the PGA Tour, along with the Masters, the US Open, and the Open Championship. This prestigious tournament has been held annually since 1916, with the exception of the years of the First and Second World Wars.

Originally, the PGA Championship was decided by a match-play format, but in 1958 the stroke play format was adopted, which remains in effect to this day. The winner of the tournament is awarded the coveted Wanamaker Trophy.
