Justin Leonard Wins at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic

In a day marked by wind, Justin Leonard demonstrated patience and precision in his putting, which earned him a victory at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. With a spectacular finish, Leonard secured the triumph with a card of 68 strokes, four under par, surpassing Ernie Els by a single stroke.

Leonard’s strategy culminated in an impressive finish: birdie, par, and eagle, solidifying his position at the top.

This is Leonard’s second victory on the PGA Tour Champions this year, propelling him to the top spots in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.

The tournament served as the first playoff event for the Charles Schwab Cup, and the top 54 players advance to the next phase in Arkansas.

Ernie Els, although he led much of the course in the second round, failed to maintain the pace. Despite birdies on holes 15 and 16, a bogey on 17 allowed Leonard to close in.

Leonard, with a hybrid shot from 20 feet, holed an eagle putt on the 16th hole, putting him at 12 under par (204 strokes). Els, for his part, missed a 10-foot birdie putt on the last hole, finishing with 72 strokes and sharing second place with Thomas Bjorn, who also turned in a card of 68.

Bernhard Langer, at 68 years old, and who has won at least one tournament every year on the PGA Tour Champions since turning 50, stayed near the top until a triple-putt that diminished his chances. He finished with 72 strokes, three behind the leader.

Scott Parel, with a round of 71, tied for 21st place, climbing three positions and securing his place in next week’s Simmons Bank Championship.

The top 36 players after next week’s event will advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the final tournament of the season.
