Thriston Lawrence Crowned Champion of the European Masters in Switzerland

South African golfer Thriston Lawrence demonstrated his composure and skill by recovering from a difficult start to secure victory at the European Masters, held in Switzerland. With a final round of 66 strokes, four under par, Lawrence added his fifth title on the European circuit.

Lawrence, ranked number 94 in the ranking, overcame a hesitant start on the Crans-sur-Sierre course, where he bogeyed the first three holes. However, the golfer quickly recovered, achieving an eagle on the sixth hole, after a 20-foot putt, and subsequently adding five birdies.

The competition was intense, with Matt Wallace, Sami Välimäki, and Rasmus Højgaard breathing down Lawrence’s neck. Matt Wallace signed a card of 67 strokes, while Välimäki and Højgaard recorded 65 and 62 strokes respectively.

Matt Fitzpatrick, who aspired to be selected by captain Luke Donald for the European Ryder Cup team, finished alone in fifth place, one stroke behind the competitors.

Lawrence’s triumph at the European Masters adds to his victory at the BMW International Open in June 2023.
