Laurie Canter Joins LIV Golf and Renounces PGA Tour Card

Laurie Canter has made a decision that will resonate in the golf world: he rejected the PGA Tour card to join LIV Golf, marking his second foray into the Saudi Arabian-backed league. The news was confirmed on Monday, announcing his incorporation into the Majestiks for the 2026 season. Canter, who finished in seventh place in the Race to Dubai, was among the top ten players on the European circuit with the opportunity to access the PGA Tour. However, by opting for LIV Golf, he is suspended from the PGA Tour, and his card will be awarded to Daniel Brown.

Joining Majesticks GC is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that has helped shape LIV Golf from day one.

The 36-year-old English golfer was an atypical case when LIV Golf debuted in 2022. With limited status on the European circuit, Canter joined the Saudi league to secure his participation in tournaments. In the inaugural year, he competed in seven events, finishing in 28th position in the overall standings. In 2023, he acted as a substitute, replacing injured players, and participated in eleven LIV Golf tournaments. In early 2024, he played twice as a substitute until he was replaced by Anthony Kim. After returning to the European circuit, Canter won the German Open in 2024. A new triumph in early 2025 in Bahrain catapulted him to 50th place in the world ranking, allowing him to participate in The Players Championship, becoming the first former LIV player in the circuit’s most important tournament. He also managed to qualify for the Masters. Canter joins Victor Perez in LIV Golf. The Majestiks, a team based in England, was founded by Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, and Sam Horsfield. Stenson, failing to place among the top 48 this year, was relegated, opening a spot for Canter.

The growth of the league has been remarkable and my experience has made me a more complete player and a multiple winner on the DP World Tour. Returning to the league with Majesticks GC is a great honor, and they bring a standard of excellence, ambition and identity that truly resonates with me.

Last year, Tom McKibbin earned a PGA Tour card through the European circuit and joined LIV in January. Since the season had already begun, his PGA Tour card was not awarded to the next in the rankings. Brown will be able to accept it because Canter signed with LIV before the end of the year.
