Korda Overcomes Neck Pain and Will Be Ready for the PGA Championship

FRISCO, Texas – Nelly Korda, current number one in women’s golf, missed the champions’ dinner prior to the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The reason: a neck discomfort that intensified after a shot from the rough during a practice round. Korda, who missed two tournaments on the LPGA’s Asian tour last year due to a slight neck injury, assured that she will be ready for the start of the third major of the season, which will begin on Thursday. The golfer spoke to the media on Tuesday, wearing therapeutic tape on the back of her neck, after playing again at the Fields Ranch East course of PGA Frisco. “I hit a ball from the rough [on Monday], and my neck went into a complete spasm,” explained Korda, adding that, although she felt better, the situation was affecting her swing and preparation “a little.” Korda justified her absence from the champions’ dinner on Monday due to the need to prioritize her body. The 2021 Women’s PGA winner sent a message to the current defending champion, Amy Yang.

“Obviously, with the injury I had last year, every time something activates in my neck now, I think I feel it a little more than before. But I have a great [physical therapist] taking care of me. I’m trying to get through it, but I’ll be ready for Thursday,” Korda affirmed.
