Viktor Hovland Withdraws from Travelers Championship Due to Neck Injury

The golfer Viktor Hovland was forced to withdraw from the Travelers Championship on Sunday due to a neck injury. Hovland withdrew after playing only two holes, feeling discomfort in his neck during the driving range practice, which worsened as the game continued. In addition to Hovland, two other players also withdrew from the PGA Tour event. Eric Cole, who was tied for 14th place, withdrew before starting the round due to illness. Matti Schmid withdrew after playing four holes.

“It felt good, I almost didn’t feel anything, I just felt that something was maybe brewing,” Hovland said. “Then, the next shot I hit with a driver, it was like… it just crunched. I don’t know exactly what happened, but something happened and I just couldn’t move.”

Hovland, who shared a group with Scottie Scheffler, indicated that he could barely stand on the ball and move his neck at the time of withdrawing. Hovland achieved a third-place finish at the U.S. Open last week and has finished in the top 25 in four of his last six appearances. Now, the golfer will seek to recover to compete in The Open, which will take place in four weeks.
