Steven Alker Takes the Lead at the Senior British Open

Golfer Steven Alker shone at the Old Course at Sunningdale with an impressive round of 63 strokes, seven under par, securing the lead in the Senior British Open, the last major of the year on the PGA Tour Champions. Alker, with two Charles Schwab Cup titles and nine victories on the PGA Tour Champions, seeks his second senior major, after his triumph at the Senior PGA Championship in 2022. His performance puts him with a one-stroke lead over Mark Hensby of Australia. Defending champion, K.J. Choi, and Joe Durant, are three strokes behind, with a score of 66.

“I was efficient today. I managed to get the ball in the fairway when needed, my iron game was solid and I holed some putts, especially on the back nine, which kept the momentum going,” Alker stated. “You always need momentum. It’s a good first round for the Senior Open.”
