Adam Scott, renowned golfer, is in the fight for his third Australian PGA Championship, despite a five-year title drought. Scott achieved an outstanding performance on Saturday, positioning him to fight for the championship. The former world number one and Masters champion combined eight birdies with three bogeys, signing a card of 66 strokes. This allowed him to briefly share the lead, finishing in a tie for ninth place with a total of 11 under par. The competition is intense, with several players at the top of the leaderboard, including Min Woo Lee, Marc Leishman, Anthony Quayle, David Puig from Spain and Ricardo Gouveia from Portugal, who could surpass Scott in the rankings. Scott, with 32 worldwide victories, hasn’t won a 72-hole event since the Genesis Invitational in 2020. At 45 years old, he remains optimistic about his chances and demonstrated on Saturday that the third Kirkwood Cup is within his reach.
Scott expressed his desire to improve his performance in the final round. “I’m going to have to have a very good round. A strong first part to put me in position and then, if I can be at the top with seven or eight holes to play. I’ll have to close well too. I can’t stagnate. It’s very close, tomorrow will have to be something spectacular.” The golfer had a promising start, with four under par in the first nine holes, before a two-hour rain delay. Then, he achieved consecutive birdies on holes 12 and 13, which allowed him to share the lead with 12 under par. However, a bogey on the next hole and a mistake on the par three of hole 17, prevented him from maintaining his advantage. Scott commented on his approach: “I’m not thinking about winning… I’m meeting all the requirements and doing a better job in the necessary areas. But I’ve put myself in a good position.”It’s hard to complain about 66.
