Lando Norris anticipates an intense championship battle with Oscar Piastri, following his triumph at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Norris, who started third, experienced a complicated start, falling to fifth place after the first corner. However, a bold strategy, opting for one less pit stop than his rivals, led him to lead the race.
In an electrifying finish, Norris defended his position from the relentless Piastri, who was inches away from colliding with his teammate in a desperate attempt for victory on the penultimate lap.
Norris, with nerves of steel, secured his fifth victory of the season, the third in the last four races, crossing the finish line with a minimal lead of six tenths of a second. This victory reduced the gap in the championship to nine points, with ten races remaining.
Max Verstappen, who finished ninth, remains in third position in the standings, 97 points behind the leader.
I’m exhausted. Oscar was catching me in the last stretch and I was pushing to the max. My voice is a bit gone.
Norris acknowledged that the fight with Piastri will be arduous and will likely extend until the end of the season. He also admitted that, despite the good results, Piastri is not making it easy for him, and that he must improve certain aspects to optimize his performance.
