A Unique Collection of Mansour Ojjeh’s McLarens for Sale

An exceptional collection of 20 McLaren road cars, with very little use and belonging to the late co-owner of the Formula One team, Mansour Ojjeh, is for sale. A buyer with great purchasing power is expected to acquire the entire collection. The renowned classic and historic car dealer, Tom Hartley Jnr, announced on Sunday that he has been appointed by the Ojjeh family to manage the sale, which could exceed $70 million. Hartley also oversaw the sale, earlier this year, of the collection of 69 historic grand prix and Formula One cars of former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, to Red Bull heir Mark Mateschitz. The Ojjeh collection includes the last model of the McLaren F1 built, with a unique ‘Yquem’ color, which McLaren later renamed ‘Mansour Orange’, and which has just over 1,800 km on the odometer.
The collection includes 20 McLaren cars with very little use. Only 106 units of the McLaren F1 sports car were manufactured between 1992 and 1998. A 1995 model with less than 390 km was sold for $20.4 million at an auction in Pebble Beach, California, in 2021. All other cars are the same orange color and correspond to the last chassis manufactured of each model. In addition to the F1 and a P1 GTR, the cars have not been used and have been maintained by the manufacturer. The attached photographs showed them on display at the Bahrain F1 circuit. “Mansour was a founding father of McLaren as we know it today,” said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing. Ojjeh, a Saudi businessman born in Paris, succeeded his father as CEO of Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) and sponsored the Williams F1 team in 1979. Then, in 1984, he acquired a stake in McLaren, funding the development of the TAG-Porsche engines that won two constructors’ titles and three drivers’ championships. Ojjeh, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 68, was a key figure in the launch of McLaren Automotive with Ron Dennis. “Being entrusted with the sale of Mansour Ojjeh’s McLaren collection is like handling Enzo Ferrari’s Ferraris or Ferdinand Porsche’s Porsches,” said Hartley. “This is the most significant collection of McLaren road cars ever assembled, and I sincerely hope it is acquired by a single buyer.”
