Christian Horner in Aston Martin’s sights

Christian Horner, a key figure in the Formula 1 world, is emerging as a potential leader for the Aston Martin team. Aston Martin would be considering a change in its management, which opens the door to Horner’s arrival. Sources indicate that Andy Cowell, current team principal, could take on a different role within the team, possibly overseeing Aston Martin’s power unit project in its partnership with Honda from 2026. Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, has big ambitions to turn his team into champions under the new F1 regulations. This includes hiring Adrian Newey, a renowned designer, and building a modern facility in Silverstone.
It is rumored that Horner is on the list of candidates to take the leadership position at Aston Martin. Other names mentioned include Andreas Seidl, former McLaren boss, and Mattia Binotto, current CEO of Sauber/Audi and former Ferrari boss. Horner recently reached an agreement with Red Bull, freeing him to return to Formula 1 in early 2026. It is anticipated that Horner’s return to F1 would not be in a traditional team principal role, but with significant financial backing as part of an investment deal. At Red Bull, Horner served as CEO and team principal. Joining Aston Martin would allow him to reunite with Adrian Newey. Horner and Newey were fundamental in the transformation of Red Bull into an F1 powerhouse. A possible complication in Horner’s signing by Aston Martin could be Lawrence Stroll’s desire to bring Max Verstappen to the team in the future.
