Alex Dunne will debut in Formula 1 with McLaren at the Austrian Grand Prix

McLaren development driver Alex Dunne will have the opportunity to participate in the first practice session (FP1) at the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Dunne will replace Lando Norris in this crucial session. Dunne, 19 years old, currently competes in Formula 2 with Rodin Motorsport. His addition to the McLaren Formula 1 young driver program occurred in 2024. In addition to his Formula 2 responsibilities, Dunne is also a reserve driver for the McLaren Formula E team. FIA regulations require teams to field a young driver in two practice sessions per car during the season. Pato O’Ward, another reserve driver, will participate in the first practice session at the Mexican Grand Prix in October. Two additional announcements are expected regarding young drivers who will participate in other practice sessions.

It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to drive during FP1 in Austria. I’m looking forward to turning the wheel of the MCL39 and supporting the team with the setup for the race weekend.
