Colapinto to the Rescue: Alpine Shakes Up F1 with Doohan’s Bench and the Arrival of the Argentinian

Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will replace Jack Doohan in the next five races, starting at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday, ending months of speculation.

Doohan’s seat, an Australian driver, has been in doubt since Alpine signed Colapinto as a reserve driver in January.

The Argentinian driver gained prominence by impressing as a replacement for Logan Sargeant at Williams last year.

Williams loaned him to Alpine this year with the expectation that he would gain racing experience.

Doohan struggled to stand out in his five races this year, suffering several accidents and struggling to match the qualifying performance or race results of his teammate, Pierre Gasly.

On Tuesday, Alpine confirmed that team principal Oliver Oakes has resigned with immediate effect. Executive advisor Flavio Briatore will assume Oakes’ duties.
