Cardile starts at Aston Martin after legal dispute with Ferrari

Aston Martin has confirmed the addition of Enrico Cardile as technical director of its Formula 1 team. Cardile, coming from Ferrari, finally joins the team after a waiting period. Cardile left his position as technical director of Ferrari in mid-2024, after agreeing to join Aston Martin. However, both teams maintained a dispute over Cardile’s start date. The signing of the Italian is part of Aston Martin’s strategy, led by Lawrence Stroll, with the aim of competing for the championship from 2026. Among the new team members are figures like Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell. Earlier this year, Ferrari obtained a court order preventing Cardile from collaborating with Aston Martin until the end of his “gardening leave” period. The court determined that Cardile was in breach of the non-compete agreement with Ferrari. Aston Martin has confirmed that Cardile is already working in his new role. In a statement, the team expressed its satisfaction at having found a solution, allowing Cardile to lead the design and technical functions at the AMR Technology Campus. The arrival of Cardile marks a significant milestone for Aston Martin as they look ahead to the new era of F1, which will come into effect next season, with new regulations that promise to restructure the competitive order. Cardile will report to the team principal and group CEO, Andy Cowell. Stroll has described Newey, Cowell and Cardile as a “formidable leadership team”.

The team will also start the new cycle of regulations with an exclusive supply of Honda engines, after years of using Mercedes power units.
